Beginning with his great-grandfather Rev. Eugene Bell, Dr. Stephen Linton and the Eugene Bell Foundation carry on a family legacy of 100 years in Korea. Though not affiliated with any specific denomination, EugeneBell strives to reflect the Christian dedication, service, and commitment of the Bells who went to Korea as Southern Presbyterian missionaries in 1895 to found hospitals, schools, and churches.

EugeneBell¡¯s earliest efforts in North Korea included food assistance to help North Koreans suffering from a severe famine. While delivering this aid, EugeneBell's staff noted that the highly infectious disease of tuberculosis (TB) was also ravaging the North Korean population. TB had become North Korea¡¯s most serious health concern.

In 1997, EugeneBell received an official request from the North Korean Ministry of Public Health to help them in their fight against TB. EugeneBell responded by altering its focus to helping caregivers diagnose, treat, and drastically reduce tuberculosis in North Korea. Since that time, EugeneBell has been the primary source of tuberculosis medicine and diagnostic equipment for North Korea. In 2005, the Ministry of Public Health asked EugeneBell to expand its work beyond tuberculosis to include medical assistance for local hospitals. Dr. Linton accepted the opportunity and the challenge.

EugeneBell is a unique developmental assistance and humanitarian aid organization because we strive to connect tuberculosis care centers, tuberculosis hospitals and local people¡¯s hospitals to individual donors as partners in a combined effort to help the sick and suffering of North Korea. EugeneBell is committed to people serving people. Consequently, EugeneBell makes every effort to introduce the identities and motives of our donors, particularly donors who sponsor support for individual projects and institutions. Most of our assistance is in the form of ¡°Partner Packages¡± delivered to recipients in the name of donors. As a conduit, EugeneBell is currently responsible for sending tuberculosis medicine, medical aid, and diagnostic equipment for approximately 1/3 of the North Korean population.

EugeneBell has had the privilege of introducing a wide variety of organizations to humanitarian work in North Korea. In the early years, food aid to North Korea funneled through EugeneBell came primarily from social, civic, and religious organizations within the Korean and Korean-American communities. Today, EugeneBell's community has expanded to include American organizations that partner with us on medical and agricultural projects. EugeneBell also works with business communities in Korea and the United States. For the past few years, EugeneBell has received generous funding from the government of the Republic of Korea.

Whether you are an individual who wants to contribute towards a TB medication package or one of our on-going programs, or would like to partner with us to introduce your organization to North Korea, EugeneBell is at your service.
