North Korean local hospitals were originally designed as general hospitals intended to provide most of the basic medical care needed by local communities. In recent years, however, they have faced great difficulties as they lack even the basic equipment and supplies to provide medical treatment.

At first, EugeneBell assisted only the tuberculosis departments of local hospitals. When the North Korean Ministry of Health officially asked for help in treating other diseases in addition to tuberculosis, EugeneBell began expanding its work into general medicine.

EugeneBell began the ¡®Comprehensive Local Hospital Package¡¯ program in 2005 by sending much-needed diagnostic as well as operating room equipment and supplies. As with other packages designed by EugeneBell, these assistance packages are designed to radically improve local caregivers¡¯ ability to deliver critical medical services.

EugeneBell¡¯s ¡®Comprehensive Local Hospital Packages¡¯ breathe life into long-neglected hospitals, allowing them to independently improve their level of treatment. With each package, the overall quality of North Korea¡¯s basic health and medical systems rise and improves the public health services available to entire communities.
