The Eugene Bell Foundation
In 1995, the Eugene Bell Foundation began providing food assistance to the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) who were suffering from famine. Starting in 1997, we shifted our focus to the eradication of tuberculosis (TB), and for the next ten years, provided TB medications, diagnostic equipment, and other support for TB patients in the DPRK. During this period, the Foundation provided medications for more than 250,000 tuberculosis patients in 70 North Korean medical institutions.
In 2008, the Eugene Bell Foundation began treating patients who had failed treatment with conventional TB medications. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is not only more complex and difficult to treat than drug-susceptible tuberculosis, but also 100 times more expensive. MDR-TB patients also require constant supervision to manage adverse drug reactions.

The Eugene Bell Foundation delivers medical assistance in the name of the donors who make its treatment program possible. EBF works closely with medical authorities and local medical staff to improve treatment outcomes. The Foundation sends regularly-scheduled delegations to medical centers enrolled in the program to deliver assistance, diagnose patients, and assist with patient management.
